Baby-wearing, or the practice of wearing or carrying a baby or child in a sling or other form of carrier, has been the choice of parents everywhere in the world for many years, but recently there have been many concerns about doing it safely and comfortably for both baby and parent. With the rise of injury due to improper fit or positioning, the need for education is growing.
Healthy Baby Happy Earth, in Glendale, now has the first Arizona baby-wearing consultant, Kim Swayman, who has been trained at the Baby-Wearing Institute, which works closely with professionals around the globe. Swayman is available to assist parents in selecting the proper carrier for them and their baby.
This educated approach to fitting the carriers looks at long-range considerations like baby’s spinal and hip development, as well as behavioral modeling experiences. It also takes into consideration the physical well-being of the parents.
