Phoenix Yoga Rocks the Park season begins September 13 at Steele Indian School Park, and new owners Will Zecco and Wayne Hoffman are offering an amazing opening day lineup of yoga teachers, music, vendors and entertainment. Southwest Institute of Healing Arts is a National Sponsor for the event, which runs through October 11.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. through 1 p.m., and the first yoga practice, with Anton Mackey and Julie Bell, will be at 11 a.m., followed by a half-hour of music with local musician Tom Kumagi from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Lisa Cohen and Angie Hall will round out the day with a class at 1 p.m. There will be Camp Yoga Rocks the Park for the kids to practice, too, so the entire family can participate.

The first day is free, sponsored by Moksha Yoga Phoenix (MokshaYogaPhoenix.com) and owner Tommy Zitzka. Moksha Studio supports 108 Lives—Project Nepal and will be collecting donations to benefit this charity that helps people help themselves by supporting local initiatives.

National and international yogis, yoga teachers, musicians, yoga studios, festival partners, nonprofit organizations and mindful businesses come together during Yoga Rocks the Park because they believe in the power of uniting with like-minded friends on a common mission to grow the practice of yoga. Hoffman explains, “The part we are most excited about is creating high-quality, well-attended community events. We hope to expand yoga awareness and create events where entire families, communities and special interest groups get involved in yoga.”

Yoga Rocks the Park, “America's outdoor yoga studio,” was founded seven years ago by Erik Vienneau. His motivation behind the event was to “cultivate a sense of community peace, and joy for all beings.” Since the first event at a park in Denver, the event has grown to more than a dozen cities across America and encompasses not only yoga, but live music and local vendors, as well.

Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, a private, postsecondary school, is a natural fit for sponsorship, as they provide a realm of holistic healing training courses and programs such as yoga teacher training, massage therapy licensing, life coaching certification and holistic nutrition education.
