Graceful Aging Through Rewind Yoga

Rewind Yoga, designed for people 50 and up, is now offered by Kim Carter, MA, HTCP, RYT, at Multiplicity Enterprises, in Mesa. This class was developed to focus on three specific areas: balancing, increasing flexibility and building functional strength. As we age, maintaining and improving these skills are important so that we can perform the normal activities of daily living, maintain independence and reduce the incidence of falls.

Classes are offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. No prior yoga experience is necessary, and beginners are especially welcome. Adaptations and modifications of poses allow those with chronic or limiting conditions to participate. Rewind Yoga also incorporates breathing practices and mindfulness techniques that help develop a greater sense of well-being.

This evidence-based series, developed by YMEDICA, was studied in partnership with Arizona State University. The results of the study showed an improvement for six different metrics, as measured by the Functional Fitness Test after 12 weeks of Rewind Yoga. Additional benefits include reduced stress, alleviation of symptoms associated with chronic conditions and promoting healthy body awareness.

Class fee $10 (first class is free, maximum six). Location: 2045 S. Vineyard, Ste. 139, Mesa. Preregistration required at MultiplicityEnterprises.com.
